Wire is one of those strangely uncelebrated products that the modern world couldn’t exist without. No copper wire – no electricity.
Notoriously used as a weapon against humanity – it contains, restrains and imprisons. It can provide an almost insurmountable barrier. Barbed wire is an icon of war. On the creative side, the Egyptians and Greeks used wire for jewellery and decoration, the sculptures of Ruth Asawa and Alexander Calder are well worth a look.
